Leather Sole Care
Before wear: A removable plastic sticker is adhered to the sole of each DOF Studios shoe to ensure protection. This is to be removed before you wear your new shoes.
Caring for your shoes is essential to preserving their longevity and integrity. While the leather uppers are designed to endure for years, leather soles naturally wear down and will need to be replaced over time. Continuing to wear shoes on a weakened sole can cause lasting damage, so we recommend keeping an eye on their condition. There is no strict timeline for re-soling, as it depends on how often you wear them, the surfaces you walk on, and your individual stride. Instead, look for subtle signs of wear and visit a trusted cobbler when needed - a simple resole and polish will keep your DOF shoes looking refined and ready for years of wear.
SIGNS THAT YOUR SHOES MAY BE IN NEED OF A RE-SOLE
Uneven wear: Every stride leaves its mark. Part of the beauty of leather soles is how they evolve with your natural movement. Over time, favouring one side of the foot can lead to uneven wear. When this becomes noticeable, it’s a sign your soles are ready for a resole to protect the longevity of your shoes.
Sole Splitting: If the upper begins to separate from the sole, it’s time for a resole. This can happen for many reasons - from toe scuffing to water damage, or even drying shoes too close to direct heat. We recommend avoiding wearing your shoes in wet weather, however if this is unavoidable If you plan to wear your shoes in wet weather or know you scuff often, keep an eye out for early signs of splitting. A thin rubber patch can also be added for extra protection, which we recommend for pairs intended for regular wear in the rain. Should your shoes get wet, let them dry naturally - soles facing upward, away from direct heat or sunlight, to allow the leather to breathe and prevent further damage.
Water Damage: Unlike mass-produced rubber or synthetic soles, luxury leather soles are vulnerable to water. Light rain won’t cause lasting harm, but repeated exposure can weaken the leather and compromise its integrity over time. If your shoes do get wet, allow them to dry fully before wearing again - soles facing upward, away from direct heat or sunlight so the leather can breathe and recover naturally.
