WORDS WITH: Petra Lenssen

Mother's Day is a celebration of women who have nurtured and guided us with strength and unconditional love, from the ones we call 'mum' to the truely
exceptional women in our lives..

We chatted to friend of the brand @petraprimrose about all things motherhood, her personal experiences and time spent with her own mum..

DOF Studios: Can you d
escribe your mother in 3 words?

Petra: Easygoing, free-spirited, bubbly

DOF Studios: What is your favourite memory with your mother?

Petra: Picking dandelions to make honey each spring! I remember running around the house, wearing dandelion chains as a princess crown, pollen everywhere, the yellow fingers at the end of the day. Ah, bliss!

DOF Studios: What’s the one thing your learned from your mother that you will never forget?

Petra: Random, but my mom taught me how to chop wood with an axe! Haha! True story. They still chop wood each autumn back at home, to get ready for the winter.

DOF Studios: Can you describe being a mother in 3 words?

Petra: Exhausted, but in-love!

DOF Studios: What’s the best part of being a mom?

Petra: The best part of being a mum is seeing the world through the eyes of your child. The little things in life we take for granted. Each and every new experience is such an adventure with a bub. I love how just simply scrubbing the floor, or doing the washing, can turn into a game! I love how sticks and flowers turn into toys! I love his reactions to new objects, sounds, people. They really are little sponges & learn so quickly! It’s fascinating!

DOF Studios: In what way has motherhood changed you?

Petra: I think I have a lot more patience and empathy for people now that I’m a mom. It’s a whole new world!

DOF Studios: What’s the one piece of advice you would give to new moms

Petra: Best advice? Don’t listen to the Karens! What works for me, might not work for you. Each and every baby is so different. When you become a mother, you are inevitably overwhelmed by a newfound sense of responsibility. It’s a big push into a deep sea and learning how to swim. Motherhood is challenging as it is. Last thing you need is judgment.

There’s nothing better than trusting your gut and learning that it’s ok ( and at times necessary) to ask for help. Cheesy, but so true!

DOF Studios: How do you balance motherhood and personal or professional life?

Petra: I’m very fortunate and grateful to have a husband, who is there when I ask and has the flexibility to manage his own work schedule. We like to just go with the flow and take turns.

Over the years we both learned the importance of maintaining a balanced life through living a healthy and active lifestyle. We try to encourage each other to stay fit and well and take care of each other first, because we learned very early on that we can’t pour from an empty cup.

With having no family support in Australia, it really is just the two of us running the show. And we are doing our best to be the mom, the dad, the grandparents, uncles and aunties. The whole village! It’s challenging at times, but oh so rewarding.

DOF Studios: What’s your go-to outfit when you want to feel comfortable and stylish?

Petra: As a yoga teacher and a mom on the go, I love dressing up my activewear and leisure wear! Very Melbourne of me, I know! I like having a few really good quality pieces and keeping layers and accessories handy. Chuck in a new pair of white DOF sneaker - and voilà ! Ready to go!

Petra wears the new season Eddie Boots above. Her go-to seasonal pairs include the best selling Avril Sandal and the Zara Sneaker.
